In July 2026, the European Commission unveiled its “Electrification Action Plan”, a strategy aimed at making the European Union the “first electro-continent”.
It is no coincidence that it calls for scaling up district heating and cooling networks. The key to successful electrification lies in going beyond individual solutions, tapping into the huge benefits of system-wide infrastructures to:
- Electrify heating and cooling through large heat pumps, e-boilers and thermal storage
- Increase energy efficiency through waste heat recovery
- Replace fossil fuels with abundant local renewable heat sources
- Make the EU energy system more resilient, flexible and secure
In other words, we need to think bigger to electrify better!
The message is clear, and the path is set: district heating and cooling should supply 15% of the EU’s heat demand by 2030, and waste heat alone should supply 11% of the heat demand by 2050.
Now, how do we get there?
Join us on 3-4 November 2026 and be part of the solution, alongside policymakers, industry and thought leaders.
